BIAXIAL GEOGRIDS / COMPOSITE BIAXIAL GEOGRIDS

Biaxial geogrids are essential geosynthetic materials used for aggregate layer reinforcement in civil engineering. Biaxial geogrids provide equal strength in both longitudinal and transverse directions, ideal for roads, working platforms, and site subgrades. Composite biaxial geogrids include a geotextile and a biaxial geogrid, all in one, saving installation time. It is used between the natural soil and aggregate layers. The geotextile will help for separation / filtration, while the biaxial geogrid provides the increased carry capacity. Composite biaxial geogrids are used on saturated soils of low load-bearing capacity. Its uniform design ensures strong mechanical interlock with aggregates, providing increased strength.

HES offers both types, tailored for various civil engineering applications.

Applications:
  • Site subgrades
  • Industrial / Commercial sites
  • Railway ballasts
  • Oil platform access roads
  • Temporary military roads
  • Mine haul roads
  • Forestry and logging roads
  • Coastal roads
  • Parking lots
  • Under hydro-electric transmission line towers
  • Foundation support

RETAINING WALLS /STEEP SLOPES UNIAXIAL GEOGRIDS

Our uniaxial geogrids are specifically designed for soil reinforcement in applications such as retaining walls and steep slopes where soil strength develops uniaxially. Placed between soil layers, these geogrids reinforce the soil and improve structural stability. They can be used alone or with various facing elements like segmental blocks, precast concrete panels, green facings, or wraparound galvanized steel facing to maximize soil performance and prevent early structural deterioration.

Additionally, our geogrids are highly recommended for slope remediation projects and landslide repairs, involving excavation, reuse of failed soil, and layering with geogrid for reinforcement. Manufactured with high molecular weight (>30,000) high tenacity polyester yarns using a precision knitting process, and coated with black PVC for chemical, mechanical, and ultraviolet protection, they are engineered to be mechanically and chemically stable during harsh construction phases and in aggressive soil environments, unaffected by soil micro-organisms, and resistant to ultraviolet degradation.

Benefits:
  • Versatility with a wide range of facing options
  • Up to 60% material and time savings
  • High resistance to dynamic shock loading and seismic activity
  • Allows use of on-site fill, making construction faster and more economical
  • Withstands differential settlement
  • High connection strength between facing and the grid
  • Creates aesthetically appealing structures
  • Minimizes traffic disruption and lane closures

Applications:
  • Retaining wall systems
  • Bridge abutments
  • Vegetated retaining walls
  • Steep reinforced slopes
  • Embankments on soft subgrades
  • Landfill liner reinforcement
  • Mining applications

GEOCELLS

HES Geocell - Advanced Cellular Confinement Solutions HES offers a highly flexible and durable Geocell system, designed for optimal soil and aggregate confinement. This three-dimensional cellular structure enhances soil drainage and compaction, significantly improving shear strength and bearing capacity by preventing horizontal fill movement. Its open and porous design facilitates effective vertical and lateral water drainage, promoting groundwater recharge while mitigating erosion and surface runoff. The Geocell also allows for vegetation growth, providing a natural, green aesthetic.

Primarily used for base stabilization and slope reinforcement, the HES Geocell is versatile enough for channel erosion protection and retaining wall construction. Its robust honeycomb structure, made from 100% virgin high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin, ensures excellent weight distribution and supports heavy loads without displacement, making it ideal for various construction applications.

Benefits:
  • Supports vegetative growth, minimizing environmental impact.
  • Versatile design for soil load support, earth retention, and erosion protection.

Applications:
  • Slope stabilization
  • MSE retaining wall base reinforcement
  • Channel erosion protection

ASPHALT INTERLAYER FIBERGLASS GEOGRIDS

HES supplies a premier line of asphalt interlayer fiberglass geogrids designed for interlayer asphalt reinforcement, enhancing pavement life and performance while reducing maintenance costs. It features a unique coating that provides heat resistance and stability up to 900°F, minimal shrinkage, and ultimate elongation to create a rigid asphalt layer. These geogrids are highly durable and formulated to resist ultraviolet degradation. They can be used between new pavement layers or onto existing distressed pavements, either fully or locally using our 1.5 m roll placed on cracks or cold joints.

Variants:
  • Fiberglass Geogrid: Polymer-coated with optimal aperture sizes for high interlock and effective bonding of asphalt layers.
  • Fiberglass Composite Geogrid: Bonded to a non-woven geotextile, offering moisture proofing and water resistance with strong bonding over the tack coat surface.

Benefits:
  • Minimizes thermal, fatigue and reflective cracking
  • Increases fatigue life of pavements with weak foundations
  • Extends pavement life
  • Cost-effective and recyclable
  • Reduces overlay thickness to a minimum of 50 mm

Applications:
  • On cracked pavements, either locally using the 1.5 m wide roll or fully.
  • On cold joints to prevent reflective cracking.
  • Airport runways
  • Taxiways
  • Bridges
  • Parking lots
  • High traffic pavements
  • New highway construction
